Affordances and Limitations of twitter.

Twitter is a social media site that allows people to comment on peoples profiles about what they are feeling. With over 232 million users being on twitter why are people allowing strangers to comment on your life? People and celebrities receive up to 140 characters long of hateful opinions.
The social networking site has many users which can compliment people or write hateful comments about anyone they wish. When people comment on your life and make assumptions of you
Who knows who they are speaking to? The internet craze that is twitter is famous all over the world, people from different continents all able to jouge one another while hiding behind their computer screens. Yes, there's a photo and everyone has a different profile and you can set the settings to private friends only - but haven't you ever heard of re-tweeting? Encouraged trolling is one of Twitters limitations; with strangers commenting on your own life who needs a mind of their own?

Technology Research: Who invented the email?

Shiva Ayyadurai (born 2 December 1963) is an American scientist of Indian origin, inventor and entrepreneur.
In 1979, as a 14-year-old high school student at Livingston High School in New Jersey, Ayyadurai began his work on an email system for the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. His task was to emulate the paper-based interoffice mail system then in use at the medical school. In 1982, he copyrighted his software, called "EMAIL", as well as the program's user documentation. Two years later, he copyrighted "EMS", which included EMAIL and other programs.
A November 2011 Time Techland interview by Doug Aamoth entitled "The Man Who Invented Email" argued that Ayyadurai's program represented the birth of email "as we currently know it". In that interview, Ayyadurai recalled that Les Michelson, the former particle scientist at Brookhaven National Labs who assigned Ayyadurai the project, had the idea of creating an electronic mail system that uses the header conventions of a hardcopy memorandum. Ayyadurai recalled Michelson as saying: "Your job is to convert that into an electronic format. Nobody’s done that before."
Ayyadurai described his program EMAIL as "the first of its kind -- a fully integrated, database-driven, electronic translation of the interoffice paper mail system derived from the ordinary office situation. It provided the electronic equivalents and features of mail receipt and transmission including: the inbox, outbox, drafts, address book, carbon copies, registered mail, ability to forward, broadcast along with a host of other features that users take for granted in Web-based email programs such as Gmail and Hotmail.
As a high school student in 1979, he developed an electronic version of an interoffice mail system, which he called "EMAIL" and copyrighted in 1982. That name's resemblance to the generic term "email" and the claims he later made for the program have led to controversy over Ayyadurai's place in the history of computer technology.
However, there are many people that disagree that Ayyadurai actually 'invented' EMAIL, including: Sam Biddle argued that email was developed a decade before EMAIL, beginning with Ray Tomlinson's sending the first text letter between two computers in 1971. Biddle quoted Tomlinson: "We had most of the headers needed to deliver the message as well as identifying the sender and when the message was sent (date:) and what the message was about." Biddle allowed for the possibility that Ayyadurai may have coined the term "EMAIL" and used the header terms without being aware of earlier work, but maintained that the historical record isn't definitive on either point.

Communication

Introduction to transcript and communication text
In this transcript there are two characters named Steph an Natalya, Natalya is instructing Steph to draw the same image on her piece of paper that she drew herself on her own paper. The conversation lasted 3 minutes and took place in a class room. The image contained pictures of 3 shapes with faces each in different corners of the page.
Transcript
Natalya: So in the middle section, of like (.) the right hand side-
Steph: Okay..?
Natalya: draw a smiley face (brief laugh) closer to the top
(Pause.)
like-a..lika biggish, sort of, smiley face
(Both laugh)
Steph: Okaaay....
Natalya: Draw a circle around it. Wait - I'm not suppose to see this am i ?!
Steph: Okay.. art is not my.. uhh... strong point..
Natalya: (Laugh) And now you got to do loads of little, litt'l leggies underneath the .. (muffled laughter) smiley face
Steph: Little legs?
Natalya: Little leggies, lika (.) perpendicular sort of lines .. under smiley -
(Steph laughs)
Natalya: 'nd then you gotta do li'le arms coming off the smiley face
(Both laugh)
Steph: i bet mine looks nothing like yours.
Natalya: Okaaay now in the left top hand corner, that's more slightly in the middle (.) like the same size as the smiley face-
Step: Okay
Natalya: You've gotta draw a triangle (long pause)
and now now in the middle of the triangle, but like closer to the top, draw two little dots for eyes (brief laugh)
Steph: it's got one eye bigger than the other
(both Natalya and steph laugh)
Natalya: Aaand now .... do like a little, little leggies but like right angle leggies beneath the triangle (Long pause)
And now between the triangle and the smiley face-
(Both laugh)
But more like closer to the bottom half (.) of the page
Steph: Right...
Natalya: You got to do a square
Steph: More rectangular than a square but (.) you know
Natalya: You gotta do the same li'le leggies
(Both laugh)
Then you gotta do the same little arms coming off the middle coming off the middle, but they go at 45 degrees
Steph: Okay..
Natalya: Then you gotta do the exact same dots in the middle for eyes (3)
Yeah that's it↓
Steph: Yeah that looks goood..?
(Both Natalya and Steph laugh)
Analysis of transcript
Firstly we notice the colloquial language spoken by Natalya, she uses the conjunction 'so' as a starter, this shows that she is trying to get to the point of giving instructions to Steph. Moreover, Natalya uses many non-standard pronunciations: for the words little she says 'li'le' and for the word legs she says 'leggies'. By using the typical convention of fillers this extenuates her bristolian accent and the developed laziness in her speech.

Secondly,  Steph and Natalya both use frequent interruptions in the form of laughter or questions. One example is 'between the triangle and the smiley face- (Steph laughs)', in this quote it is clear by the use of the dash that Natalya has been interrupted by Steph's involuntary laughter.

One of the basic conventions of a transcript are the uses of stage directions; they contain the interruptions of Natalya and Steph laughing and the pauses. An example f this is '(3)', here the use of the brackets show that the current speaker paused for three seconds, this then shows that they are thinking about what to say. They are presented in the transcript in parenthesis to show that they are stage directions and have not been spoken.

Throughout the transcript, many fillers are being repeated, such as: like, lika, uh and okay; The fillers in the text show the casual language being spoken and that Natalya and Steph unsure of what to draw. By using the fillers, the audience can see that they are finding this difficult and are struggling about what to say.

Lastly, another one of the conventions used is utterances, which have mainly been used in the small phrases which Steph repeats, for example 'okaaay... ↓', I added this in here so it didn't seem so final and so it doesn't sound like a queiry, more of a statement. Furthermore, in the transcript I repeated these phrases as I wanted the transcript to sound continuous and more like a conversation.

50 word short story 'Christmas tree'

We were listening to my Christmas CD in daddy's truck, on the way to the big forest. We go there every year to find the perfect present for her. This year we got the biggest one we could take home.
"Do you think she'll like it?"
"She would have loved it Princess."

My commentary on my God's among us article

The style model I used for my 'Gods among us' piece was taken from Empire online. The genre of this article was an online article, we can tell this as it included a headline, strap line and an image. It was wrote for Empire, the world's most famous movie magazine and attracts movie enthusiasts, fans of the celebrities mentioned in articles and adults who understand pop culture references. The article i chose as my style model was written by Simon Braund; his purpose of writing this piece was to entertain, inform people about the life of Paul Newman and to persuade audiences that Paul Newman really is a God among us.

In my interpretation of my style model I included many God and star references; for example 'angelic beauty' and 'unforgettable star'. I used these words and phrases in my article as in Braunds article he used the lexical field of stars in addition to using many God like references referring back to the tile of Gods among us such as 'blazing star' and 'sun king'. He used these lexical word choices as a pun for us to think of him as a movie star and also an unforgettable blazing star in space, someone out of our knowledge like a God. Therefore in my article i used repetition of the word 'star' in my work to persuade my audience that Nina Dobrev is a God among us.

In Braunds online article he included many references to Paul Newman's past life and history of his career; such as the films her starred in, his appearance and facts about his past life. Therefore, in my article I incorporated information about her movie career, like 'starring in many famous TV series and films including: The Vampire diaries...' Additionally, I added information about her award like my style model did, 'collecting her 5th Choice TV actress award'. Throughout my article i added many facts about Nina Dobrev's career while in acting and her awards in her life, ideas used in my style model for Paul Newman. By including these techniques i have made my article more informative and formal.

Moreover, i included many comparisons throughout my text to make it seem that Nina Dobrev was better than all the other actors and actresses. I made many comparisons with older actresses including 'Juliette Lewis and Cheryl Hines', this was to show that her acting skills are to be adored by all ages and that age doesn't matter when it comes to acting. I did this because Braund compared many other younger actors to Newman commenting on their lack of experience, for example 'Clint Eastwood was still a small-screen, small-time cowboy'. He compared Paul Newman to someone that was also well recognized for his acting skills, to show how much better Newman is, even when compared to other famous actors.

Additionally, i have made teen star references to make it more suitable for my target audience to read. I have added many names such as 'Kristen Stuart' and 'Ansel Elgort' to make my audience relate and appreciate Dobrev's acting skills more by comparing her to other well known teen stars.

Lastly, I exaggerated many phrases in my text to persuade my audience that Nina Dobrev deserves to be a  God among us. For instance, 'movie sensation', 'spitting in the face of acting only too be rescued by the untold talent of Nina Dobrev' and 'no match for her undying talent'. By exaggerating the text, I am bragging about how bewildering Dobrev is at acting and persuaded my audience that Nina Dobrev is the #3 God among us.

Gods among us #3: Dobrev

She’s a movie sensation, model, and an inspiration and would definitely give Kristen Stuart a run for her money. Entertaining millions: Nina Dobrev’s never ending talent will no doubt be staying on our screens for decades to come.

With 13 awards in four years, is there anything that Nina Dobrev can’t handle? Starring in famous TV series and films including: The Vampire Diaries, Degrassi Goes to Hollywood, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, The Final Girls, Chloe and her most recent production of Let’s be Cops; Nina Dobrev has certainly put other teen stars to shame. Always providing immeasurable talent against small 'actors and actresses’ who, while she was collecting her 5TH Choice TV actress award, were just starting their first auditions.  Supposed performers like Ariana Grande and Ansel Elgort are spitting in the face of acting only to be rescued by the untold talent of Nina Dobrev. Making teen audiences weep in disbelief at her angelic beauty and stunning smile, she will be an unforgettable icon for future generations. Showing a depth of acting skills beyond her years, Dobrev has undoubtedly reserved her place among the stars; creating an explosion of talent over Hollywood, she will no doubt go down as one of the best teen actresses ever.
During 2011, Alyssa Giacobbe wrote an article for Teenvouge, named ‘Beautiful creature: Nina Dobrev’; presenting to us her raw talent for acting, unlike simple stars like AnnaSophia Robb. Even at 25 years of age, she already has exceeded old timers such as: Cheryl Hines and Juliette Lewis. Well known for her acting and fun personality, there's no doubt that we will be seeing more of Dobrev in many more TV shows to come. Whilst they rot in the retirement home she will still be a shining star amongst the remains of the small time actors and actresses that are no match for Nina Dobrev.

Help! My Grandmas acting like a teenager.

She said text speak is cool and that i need to chill.. Excuse me Grandma?!

That's correct: my grandma acts like a teenager. I have never been very good at technology, ever since i was little i was always the one that had to ask for help multiple times during IT class. I'm not sure if IT awareness is even a genetic disorder but if it was i inherited it from my mother. Our family is not brilliant at IT, things like changing AV channels on our TV screen seems completely alien to us. I literally think that i live in a different dimension where technology cannot be understood.

She use to be a normal Nan: shopping at Morrisons every Wednesday morning, eating jam on toast and having her digestive biscuit with all forty-seven cups of tea she had each day.. She was never brilliant at IT to say the least and the things she got wrong you could tell it frustrated her.  But one day she tried to send me and my mum some pictures of our day out by the beach, via email - to cut things short - she couldn't do it. So i guessed she thought that enough was enough and from that moment on wards she enrolled in a 'technology for beginners' class...

And so it began. Every Tuesday evening at 6:00pm my Grandma would drive up to her local hall and sit for an hour and a half and learn about technology.

To save my dignity, my mum didn't tell me about my Grandma's IT class; as she knows that i am embarrassed about how bad i am at technology. Normally every Wednesday my Grandma comes over to visit me and have dinner. I had just text-ed her to check that we all were still meeting up tonight and as i was walking out of school, with my black cardigan on and my big brown bag hitting against my leg, my phone pinged (its little annoying ping that all Nokia's make when one receives a text and that i still haven't figured out how to change it yet..). Naturally i looked at my phone and sure enough it was my Grandma, the text read "Hahaha, yeah i'm still going down yours for dinner honey DW! Grandma xoxo". I should have seen the warning signs then, but i didn't and carried on my innocent stroll home.

The evening seemed like every other evening she came around my mums for dinner. It always has at my mums and probably always will be, the rule of 'no technology at the table', obviously this rule only applied to my sister and I. Once dinner was eaten and the plates are slowly being moved off the table, we normally just chat for a while. However, this wasn't the case; me, my sister and my mum were all chatting until i tried to include my nan into our conversation. She couldn't hear me. So i said it again and she looked up and looked as if she was on another planet she had no clue what we were even speaking about! She was texting. We all stared at her in utter shock and disbelief - you have to understand that this is the person who a month ago asked me what the green light did on the TV.. Interrupting our shock, she shouted out LOL and took a picture of our faces and sent it out on a group snapchat.

I think we sat in silence for the rest of the evening.
The next day she had Facebook and that's her new cover photo.

Just Jimmy. - Extract of Monolouge

"That'll be £4.24 please Mrs Dunken...again", every Saturday at 4:30pm Mrs Dunken, one of the 'regulars' of this little shop, always gets the same 'essentials' as she calls them: a packet of butter, thick white bread, cranberry juice and a packet of digestive biscuits. She asked about John again, my little brother, the 'successful one'. I said he's fine - just got promoted I think. I  haven't, I've had the same job, apartment and 'regulars' for the last 19 years now but I'm proud of him -  yeah i'm proud of him. Everyone knows about John in this town, he's a lawyer they keep reminding me (as if I'd forget), your mum must be so proud they say; I always same the same thing - hes good, just got a new house, a new Armani suit, living in London now I think, I don't keep track. That'll keep them going for a couple of weeks, gossip in this town spread like butter on bread.
I have the late afternoon shift today, along with every other Saturday, always the same 4:00pm-10:00pm. It's okay the times I mean, I suppose I've nothing better to do. All the local teens of the town usually come outside the shop around 8ish. They don't do anything apart from drinking and chatting, normally there's around 12 of them. Once one of them came into the shop and tried to buy some alcohol; I told him I wasn't stupid, he disagreed. But unfortunately that is the only exiting thing that has ever happened to me in this endless town.
Oh, and here's Mr Bowditch(what a surprise- another one of the regulars) getting his weekly scratch cards, I call him the 'lucky one' because he won £10 - 7 years ago. He always gets the same numbers, I would change the numbers - well i'd think about changing them, I don't think I could bring myself to do it in the end; I think i'd just stay with the old numbers, you never know something exiting might happen. You never know.

An introduction to the life of me.

So far this 'quick little introduction to me' has taken me about an hour to think about what I'm going to write. When someone asks you to sum up your life and describe yourself, its actually kind of difficult. I think I'm just going to say my life, as if i were talking to you.
My name is Natalya; I have never shortened my name or when i have it has never stuck for very long. I have a step mum, a dad, a little sister who has outgrown me and drives me up the wall, a small mother who is watching me write this - so I'll be nice. I also have a step dad and step brother, two dogs and a hamster.
My main interest is photography, which pairs lovely with my other hobby which is travel. I'm a typical tourist when i go somewhere new (camera around my neck, going to all the touristy sites). I love listening to music, but unfortunately my musical talent is somewhat lacking; however after 3 years of piano lessons i can only remember how to play hot cross buns on the recorder  from year 2. I love singing, I'm awful at it but i love it - you'll always find me humming or singing a tune whenever i walk anywhere. I love to buy things whether its for me or gifts for people, i like new things, but i don't like spending my own money - which puts me in a bit of a dilemma.
I'm a typical girl when it comes to bugs and big spiders; they make me squeal in such a high pitch voice i could shatter glass. I don't do exercise - going up the stairs about does it for me.
However, i love traveling, seeing new cities and meeting up with my friends in Costa (personally i love the chai tea lattes). I go out with friends and family as much as i can.
If you ask my friends about me they'd probably say that I'm quiet, a good listener, thoughtful but a bit stubborn and chatty. I think after a while i drive my friends crazy, especially when I'm bored.. for some reason i take that as a ticket to just chat away. I think I'm rambling now so this is where i say goodbye, tood-o-loo and talk to you later!
